LifeWire

In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we are shining a spotlight on our friends at LifeWire.

LifeWire's mission is to support survivors of domestic violence on their path towards safety, stability, and healing, while actively working to end domestic violence by challenging community beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors. They envision a community where every person can live in a safe environment, free from oppression, and have the opportunity to thrive.

Founded in 1982, LifeWire initially offered support groups and emergency shelter to survivors in east and north King County. Over the years, their services have expanded to include comprehensive support and services including mental health services, legal advocacy, enhanced shelter options and transitional housing.

Key Initiatives:

  • Supporting Survivors: LifeWire provides survivor-driven, trauma-informed services, tailoring their support to address each survivor's unique barriers, challenges, and goals, which could include mental health services and legal advocacy. They empower survivors to gain renewed strength and self-empowerment.

  • Safe Housing: They believe no survivor should have to choose between an abusive relationship and homelessness. Their housing-first programs prioritize keeping survivors housed, enabling them to reach safety, stability and healing.

  • Prevention and Education: LifeWire is deeply committed to working towards eradicating domestic violence by providing training and educational sessions in the community. LifeWire believes that if we stand together as leaders, we can build a safe, healed and thriving community, where survivors can live a life free from fear and violence.

LifeWire plays a critical role in breaking the cycle of domestic violence by providing support, prevention education, and advocacy services to survivors while working to change societal norms and beliefs surrounding domestic violence.
