In honor of National Mentoring Month, this month we are honored to spotlight Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound has been dedicated to their powerful vision of ensuring that every young person achieves their full potential since the 1950s. As the largest donor- and volunteer-supported mentoring organization in the state, they are rooted in the belief that mentorship is the key to unlocking the incredible potential inherent in each individual.
The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound is clear and impactful: to create and support 1-to-1 mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. This commitment has led to countless transformative connections between adult volunteers, affectionately known as "Bigs," and young mentees, fondly referred to as "Littles."
At the core of their work, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound upholds principles of justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion and celebrates the rich diversity of the Puget Sound community. They take pride in being a welcoming space for youth and mentors of all races, religions, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and gender identities. By embracing diversity, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound ensures that their mentorship programs are inclusive and tailored to the unique needs of every individual, fostering an environment where differences are not only acknowledged but celebrated.
Through meaningful, monitored matches, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound is making a lasting impact on the lives of young people. With over 1,000 matches in 2023, the organization's commitment to unlocking potential and creating a supportive, inclusive environment reflects its dedication to building a brighter future, one mentoring relationship at a time.
