Hamlin Robinson

The mission of Hamlin Robinson School (HRS) is to ignite the academic and creative potential of students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. Since its founding in 1983, HRS has served the unique academic and social/emotional needs of students with dyslexia.

For approximately 20% of the general population, struggling in school can be linked to a language-based learning difference, such as dyslexia. In many general education settings, students who learn differently are often told to try harder, or they are unfairly labeled as slow, lazy, or disruptive. In truth, they are just as capable as any student but are not receiving the type of structured literacy instruction they need. When students fall through the cracks because traditional reading instruction fails to meet their style of learning, they often struggle in school and self-esteem plummets. The impact can be devastating and affect lifelong well-being. A clear correlation exists between the ability to read and the options one might perceive in life.

In 2022, HRS expanded its campus with a new building devoted to middle school students. The new facility was carefully planned to create an ideal learning environment for this age group – including the Makerspace Lab. The HRS Makerspace is a dynamic environment where the maker-mindset thrives, and ideas become reality. Specialized tools, along with materials as simple as cardboard, Legos, and basic art supplies, allow students to acquire innovative skills in solving real-life problems and to freely explore independent projects. HRS students are equipped to learn without limits!
